Pollocksville Streetscape Design & Implementation

Pollocksville, NC

Catalyst Design/ Clearscapes

The Catalyst Design staff had previously been involved with assisting the NCSU Coastal Dynamics Design Lab and the Town of Pollocksville with developing a “floodprint” plan for this area, which provided a roadmap for recovery and resiliency after Hurricane Florence struck in 2018. Subsequent to that plan, Catalyst Design partnered with LJB. Inc to design a new streetscape for the town’s main street. Catalyst Design staff developed the landscaping plans for adding new landscaping and bioretention areas within the project area, and coordinated the new sidewalk elements with NCDOT. This project design is complete and the project was recently bid for construction.

Outcomes

This project required the development of plans for new sidewalks and pedestrian connections that would fit within the existing right-of-way and meet the expectations of the town and the adjacent business owners. The planning for this infrastructure also required an understanding of future additional sidewalk connections and development opportunities in the project area.
